Academic Regulations
Rules and guidelines governing attendance, examinations, grading, progression, and academic integrity at Nova Institute.
Attendance Requirements
- Minimum 75% attendance in each course to be eligible for semester examinations.
- Students with 65%–74% attendance may be allowed with a medical certificate and a fine (as per institute norms).
- Below 65% attendance → automatic detention (no examination permitted).
- Attendance is tracked online via biometric system; monthly reports are shared with parents.
Examination Rules
- Theory exams: 3 hours; practical exams: 2‑3 hours.
- Internal assessment (assignments, quizzes, projects) = 40% of final marks.
- End‑semester examination = 60%.
- Admit card mandatory – issued only after fee clearance and 75% attendance.
- Use of unfair means leads to cancellation of paper and disciplinary action.
Grading System
- Absolute grading scale (percentage based).
- Minimum passing grade: P (40% aggregate).
- CGPA calculation: (Σ Grade Points × Credits) / Σ Credits.
- Students must maintain CGPA ≥ 5.0 to be in good academic standing.

Promotion & Progression
- Students must pass all courses of a semester to be promoted to the next.
- Up to 2 backlogs allowed for promotion to the next semester (with supplementary exams).
- More than 2 backlogs → repeat the semester.
- Maximum duration for B.Tech: 6 years; for MBA: 4 years; for M.Tech: 4 years.
Revaluation & Supplementary
- Revaluation application within 7 days of result – fee ₹500 per paper.
- If marks increase by 5% or more, fee refunded.
- Supplementary exams for failed papers (max 2 attempts).
- Supplementary fee: ₹1,000 per subject.
Academic Integrity
- Plagiarism detection via Urkund/Turnitin; above 20% similarity leads to penalty.
- Cheating in exams: cancellation of paper, 'F' grade, and possible suspension.
- Fabrication of data in projects/thesis → expulsion.
- All students must sign an academic integrity pledge at admission.
Special Provisions
- Grace marks for medical/family emergencies (max 2% of total).
- Extra time for differently‑abled students (as per UGC norms).
- Re‑registration for failed courses in subsequent semesters.
- Up to 3 attempts per subject (including supplementary).
