From the villages of Odisha to the helm of a premier engineering institute — the remarkable journey of Dr. Bibhuti Bhusan Pati.
Dr. Bibhuti Bhusan Pati was born on 7th January 1966 in Sarapada, a small village in Cuttack district, Odisha. Raised in a family that valued education, he excelled academically from an early age, earning national scholarships and finishing his schooling with distinction.
He obtained his B.Sc. Engineering (Electrical) from Sambalpur University / UCE Burla in 1987 with first class honours. His passion for advanced study led him to the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, where he completed his M.E. in Electrical Engineering in 1993, again securing first class. He later earned his Ph.D. from Utkal University in 2000, working on signal stabilisation of multivariable nonlinear control systems.
Dr. Pati began his career at IDCO, Odisha as Assistant Manager (Electrical) before moving to IGIT Sarang as a lecturer in 1989. He rose through the ranks to become Assistant Professor, and later joined the University College of Engineering, Burla (now VSSUT) in 2002 as Professor. Over 23 years at VSSUT, he held numerous leadership positions including Vice Chancellor I/C three times, Director of IQAC, Dean of Faculty & Planning, Dean of PGSR, and Head of the Electrical Engineering Department.
Under his administrative guidance, VSSUT saw significant improvements in academic quality, research output, and infrastructure. He was instrumental in NBA accreditation processes, TEQIP projects, and the establishment of advanced laboratories. Even after his retirement from VSSUT in January 2026, his dedication to education continues as the Principal of Kruttika Institute of Technical Education (KITE).
Dr. Pati’s research contributions are vast—197 publications, 65 in Scopus/SCI indexed journals, two books, and two patents. He has guided 13 Ph.D. and 27 M.Tech theses. His areas of expertise include control systems, power system stability, high voltage engineering, and renewable energy integration. He is a Life Member of ISTE, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), and a Chartered Engineer.
Known for his humility and discipline, Dr. Pati remains deeply connected to his roots. His vision for KITE is to create an institution that blends academic rigour with practical innovation, preparing students to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
